Van een onverwachte plot gesproken… Wat zou hier achter zitten? Is OpenAI een runaway train geworden, die de board wanhopig probeert te vertragen? Gaat Google gelijk krijgen om niet vol gas te gaan voor generative AI & zal Microsoft op zijn gezicht gaan? Er moet toch wel iets heel serieus aan de hand zijn om de snelst groeiende Silicon Valley startup ooit op deze manier onder controle te proberen krijgen… ---

Volgens artikel in NYT zou het een clash zijn in de board tussen accelerationists” and “doomers,” van AI. Altman zou te snel willen gaan in het uitrollen van nieuwe producten , terwijl een meerderheid van de board pleit voor voorzichtigheid. Opmerkelijk is de maatschappelijk-ethische taak van de board - een gevolg van het feit dat OpenAI oorspronkelijk opgericht is als not-for-profit organisatie: > _There are several more quirks about OpenAI’s board. De Hollandse vrienden van POKI (Alexander en Wietse) behandelen dit ‘nerddrama’ natuurlijk in hun podcast van deze week: zij passen een heel toepasselijke metafoor toe, namelijk de clash tussen 2 visies op hoe de mensheid omgaat met de wereld: the wizard (Altman - accelerator) versus the Prophet (Sutskever & the OpenAI board - ‘doomer’). Die metafoor komt uit het bekende boek over climate change van Charles C. Mann, maar is perfect ook toepasbaar op de run op AGI die we dit jaar zagen ontstaan. Tot welk kamp behoor jij?
